26-year -old man of Lusaka has been arrested for allegedly killing a 29-year-old man.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said in a statement released this afternoon that Mutele Kapopo aged 26 of Lusaka’s Nkokwa village chief Mungule area was arrested today for allegedly killing 29 year old Lusha Tembo of the same village.

Kanjela said the incident occurred on the 24th march, 2013 around 23:00 in Nkokwa village chief Mungule.

“Facts before the case are that the victim who has been identified as Lusha Tembo went drinking with the suspect when they suddenly had a misunderstanding which led into a fight. Mutele picked a shovel and hit his friend on the head, the victim sustained multiple cuts on the head and was bleeding heavily, he was then rushed to Naluyanda clinic where he was referred to UTH, unfortunately upon arrival he was pronounced dead and the body is lying in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” Kanjela said.

She said the suspect is in police custody and has been charged with murder contrary to section 200 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia and will appear in court soon.
