Oriental Quarries finally raises KR 405, 000 Catherine – Domingo bout

Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) has finally managed to raise the required KR405, 000 ahead of the boxing title fight between Zambian female boxer Catherine Phiri and Leslie Domingo of the Philippines.

Phiri is expected to defend her World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) bantamweight title against Domingo tomorrow at the government complex in Lusaka.

Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions Director Chris Malunga expressed happiness that the funds have finally been raised.

ZANIS sports reports that  Malunga said this during the weighing ceremony of Phiri and Domingo in Lusaka today.

Phiri weighed 53.1 Kilogrammes (Kg) while her opponent Domingo put up 53.5 Kg.

Malunga said the raising of the money was important towards successful hosting of the event tomorrow and thanked all stakeholders that came on board to assist his organization.

He further added that this shows that people want to work with Oriental in its quest to assist in promoting boxing across the country.

Malunga observed that with a lot support as a sport it was certain that boxing was surely headed to greater heights countrywide.

He mentioned that Oriental shall surely continue to engage government and other stakeholders in trying to support and promote boxing in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Zambia Professional Boxing Federation (ZBPF) Board Chairperson Nelson Sapi called on the fight officials to be as professional as possible as they handle Phiri and Domingo fight.

Sapi pointed out that the Federation has trust in the Zambian female boxer as she will confidently defend her title.

The Board chairperson however called on Phiri not to underrate Domingo as they battle it out in the ring tomorrow and urged fans to turn out in large number to offer total support to Phiri.

And Phiri’s trainer Mike Zulu promised the fans that his boxer would put up a good fight as he worked hard to train her and work on her weaknesses.

Zulu believes that Phiri was destined for greater heights as a female Zambian boxer because she has shown determination on her own.

Speaking also Domingo’s trainer Delima Jepheel noted that his boxer was ready for Phiri as she has also been training hard for the fight.

Jepheel pointed out that in as much as the Zambian female boxer was defending her title Domingo was not threatened at all.

And Phiri on her part stressed that she was not in any way pressured to face and fight her opponent as she was confident with the training skills her trainer imparted in her.

Domingo on the other hand stated that even if she was the challenger of the bout come tomorrow in the ring she will be able to put up her best performance to win.

Domingo has record of four victories, one draw while Phiri has one knockout victory, four undefeated records of five fights.

Phiri won the World Boxing Professional Federation title after beating Natalie Forget of Canada last October.
