Government has assures the Japanese government to utilize the Kr 17.08 million

FINANCE Minister Alexanda Chikwanda has assured the Japanese government to utilize funds given to the Zambian Government.

Speaking during the signing of the exchange of notes, records of discussion and a grant agreement at his office Chikwanda assured the Japanese government through its charge’d Affairs and interim of Japan to Zambia Hideki Yamaji.

He said the 300 million Japanese Yen equivalent to Kr17.8 million given to the Zambian government will be used to buy education materials.

“These funds will be utilized on education materials and equipment in secondary and primary schools, education leadership, management training, infrastructure completion, rehabilitation of both primary and secondary schools country wide and improvement of management information systems,” Chikwanda assured.

He said the government of Zambia is anxious to quicken the pace to reduce poverty and to achieve the millennium development goals (MDGs) particularly in relation to education.

“Investment in Education is a sure recipe to enhance the productive capacities of our people which impacts on poverty reduction, it is in this context that we consider the decision by the Japanese government to be part of the education sector pool funding to be highly commendable and laudable,” He said.

He said Zambia has made a lot of strides in the education sector with the help of the cooperating partners who have been providing pooled funding to the education sector since 2003.

And charge’d Affairs and interim of Japan to Zambia Hideki Yamaji said the new approach for the Japanese government is to provide care by way of beneficiary support.

He said the Japanese government appreciates the Zambian government for its efforts to improve the education sector.
