Govt releases KR 8 million for Nakonde District Hospital

—————Government has released KR 8 million for the construction of Nakonde district hospital which has now entered phase three of its construction stage.

 

Nakonde District Commissioner James Singoyi disclosed this in Nakonde yesterday when Secretary to the Cabinet Rowland Msiska visited the construction site located about 7 km from the boma on the Nakonde / Mbala road.

 

Mr. Singoyi said the funds released are for the construction of the administration block, staff houses and the Out Patient Department (OPD).

 

Mr. Singoyi said works have since commenced and are progressing well.

 

The District Commissioner said in addition, government has already recruited about 30 new staff that have already been posted to the new hospital.

 

He said that the 30 new health workers sent to the district to be stationed at Nakonde district hospital include three medical doctors.

 

Mr. Singoyi however, said there is need to send an ambulance to the district adding that the district has been operating without an ambulance for some time now.

 

And Dr. Msiska said he is impressed with the workmanship at the new Nakonde district hospital.

 

Dr. Msiska who was taken on a conducted tour of the structures under construction said he is happy with the quality of work at the new hospital.

 

And construction of a one-stop border post at a cost of KR 30.1 million has commenced.

 

The structure which was briefly abandoned during the MMD Government is set to be completed before the end of this year.

 

Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Acting Nakonde Station Manager David Mungela told the Secretary to the Cabinet Dr. Msiska that the contractor is already on site.

 

Mr. Mungela also disclosed that the contractor engaged to install a scanner at the border is also on site and works have since commenced.

 

Dr. Msiska is on his continued tour of Muchinga Province checking on developmental projects and programmes being implemented by the Government.

 

Dr. Msiska is accompanied on his tour by the Permanent Secretary for Administration at Cabinet Office Mrs. Anna Mwitwa Mwewa, Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary in charge of Economic Management and Finance Felix Nkulukusa, Muchinga province Permanent Secretary Charles Sipanje, and Director Public Service Management Division at Cabinet Office Sikwiba Lubasi, among others.
