Women applaud government over health post….
Solwezi, March 14, 2013, ZANIS….Women in Kyabankaka area in Solwezi have applauded government for constructing a health post in the area.
The women said the construction of the health post is a long awaited response from government to their call for health services to be brought closer to them.
Kibanza ward councilor Kelvin Ndandanda said the health facility is being constructed at a cost KR 270, 000 using the constituency development fund.
Councilor Ndandanda said a health post has been a challenge in his ward and most people are unable to access the health services due to long distances they have to walk to the nearest health center in another ward.
He stated that the health post is a priority to the people hence the allocation of the KR 270, 000 to the project which is expected to be completed this year.
A community leader in the area Nancy Kayombo said lack of a health facility has resulted in women especially expectant mothers and children to walk 33 kilometers to nearest clinic in Kyawama to access services.
Ms Kayombo said most women fail to walk the distance and opt to deliver in their homes with the help of traditional birth attendants.
She said women in the area are happy that government has provided money for the construction of the health post which will reduce the suffering that expectant mothers go through to access health services.
