Kalulushi Member of Parliament Rayford Mbulu has advised civic leaders in Chambishi to be level headed when discussing issues surrounding the resettlement of communities in the Chambishi Copper Smelter area .

He said there was need to find a permanent solution to pollution issues affecting the community of Mukulumpe area.

ZANIS in Kalulushi reports that Mr. Mbulu said this during a Council meeting held in Kalulushi yesterday.

This came after residents living in the mining vicinity complained of pollution from emission coming from the mine.

Mr. Mbulu who is also Labour deputy minister said as councilors it was normal to differ in opinions as that was what democracy was all about.

“At the end of the day let’s reach one resolution as a council as that will help us avoid unnecessary distortions,” Said Mr. Mbulu.

Mr. Mbulu said there was need to educate people living around the smelter area and find a permanent place for them.

He however said they would want to know when the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) and the Mine Safety Department (MSD) were going to resolve the matter.
