Japan gives Rotary Club of Lusaka KR600, 000

The Japanese government has given the Rotary Club of Lusaka Central over KR600, 000 for the construction of a youth skills training centre in Lusaka.

Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Akio Egwawa said the grant has been provided under the Japan’s grant assistance for grassroots human security projects.

Mr. Egwawa said during a signing ceremony with the Rotary Club in Lusaka today that his government has through the grant assistance for grassroots human security project funded more than 150 projects since its inception in 1990.

He said youth unemployment rate in Zambia was still serious especially in urban areas hence the need to provide young people with basic skills.

He said the Japanese government was determined to assist Zambia to address the high unemployment levels in the country.

Ambassador Egwawa further noted that under this project, various training programmes such as tailoring, carpentry and information technology will be implemented for the vulnerable youth across the country.

And past president and Trustee of the Youth Skills Training Centre of Rotary of Lusaka Central George Ndungu thanked the Japanese government for the grant given to the club.

Mr. Ndungu said many youth in the country lacked survival skills but noted that proposed skills centre will enable many young people to greatly benefit.

He assured the Japanese government of prudent use of the funds that has been given to the Rotary club.
