VSAZ calls on members to calm

Lusaka, March 6, ZANIS —The Voluntary Separate Association of Zambia (VSAZ) has urged its members to be patient and cooperative as government dialogues with them to determine how much will be given for terminal benefits.

VSAZ recently wrote a letter to President Sata seeking him to address concerns regarding their terminal benefits.

President Sata has since called for a meeting at cabinet office to chat the way forward on the issue.

VSAZ General Secretary Syachoke Simemeza said the association will be doing reconciliations with government for three weeks to come up with correct figures which shall warrant their terminal benefits.

This is contained in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Mr Simemeza said the issue at hand is being resolved by government together with the VSAZ lawyers within an agreed time flame.

Mr Simemeza said the amount owed will be paid in consent order upon the calculations of the rightful figures to all the 3,523 ex civil servants who went on the Voluntary Separation Scheme and package in 1999.

  1. As Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba’s Lawyers are being pounded in the tribunal, another investigation is awaiting Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba. This time very serious because it is criminal and borders on fraud and theft.
According to investigations conducted by the Zambian Watchdog, Kabimba together with Justice Permanent Secretary Mr.Joseph Akufumba and Lusaka Lawyer Rabson Malipenga have been defrauding former Civil servants millions of Kwachas every month. Kabimba together with Akufumba a close associate transferred a payment file for Voluntary Separation Association of Zambia (VSAS) from Lukona Chambers owned by Nellie Mutti to Rabson Malipanga’s law firm without the consent of the 3568 retirees. Malipenga then deducts 15 per cent from each retiree’s payment every month the money he shares with Akufumba and Kabimba. The three are working in collaboration with a Mr. Siachoke Simazeza the Chairperson for VSAZ who replaced late Mr. Nasando Isikanda. To make matters worse, it is believed operatives were used to steal documents from Lukona Chambers. In return, Malipenga has offered free legal services to Wynter Kabimba during the tribunal hearing. Malipenga is one of the lawyers who yesterday failed to cross examine former Solwezi Central Member of Parliament Lucky Mulusa after he articulately proved that Kabimba obtained undue advantage when he obtained legal advise from the Solicitor General that benefited his political party.” We will soon be writing to the Law Association of Zambia to discipline all the three because they are all lawyers. It is not only criminal but also unprofessional. It was Nelly Mutti who represented those people in court and the Judgement went in favour of Lukona Chambers not Rabson Malipenga. So LAZ has to play its part and the Police and the ACC have to play its part” the source said.
