Dj Cosmo is Mazabuka’s musician of the year

Maz FM a local radio station in Mazabuka has named Cosmas Chileshe aka DJ Cosmo as the town’s artiste of the year in a Local Star of the Year Bash held at Africana Fiesta Nightclub last Saturday.

The show organised by Maz FM’s DJ Shenny is meant to promote and appreciate Mazabuka-based artistes through an annual competition that features 15 best local songs. From the 15 songs, three make it to the last round and Mazabuka fans decide the song of the year.

DJ Cosmo, a reggae dancehall artiste of the Kokondondo and Nalelo Bwacha fame, who last year relocated to Mazabuka from Lusaka has been doing fine with his song, “Touchi Me” which eventually earned him the recognition last Saturday.

He beat his closest rival Mapick with, “Isa unsendeko” that trailed in second place while Sheko aka The Tonga Bull’s “Ngaba yambila,” was in third place.

This is the third year the show is running and organisers feel it is creating a good foundation for Mazabuka artistes because of its huge following.

“I am very honoured to receive recognition of this magnitude in a town that is becoming a force to reckon with. This is a good start and I want to encourage organisers to continue putting Mazabuka on the map through their efforts. It means a lot to me,” said DJ Cosmo in appreciating the award.

The artiste who doubled up his role as Hone FM DJ and artist while in Lusaka has made an impression in the music circles in Mazabuka. He is currently working on his album “Point of No Return,” a collection of 14 tracks featuring renowned artistes JK, Dalisoul, PJ and Rich Bizzy.
