Bursaries Committee urged to consider 2012 bursary applicants

Ndola, February 28, 2013, ZANIS – The civil society in Ndola has  appealed to the Bursaries Committee to respond to applications for bursaries in 2012 at Copperbelt University (CBU)since the University opens on March 17, 2013.

Hossana Mapalo Orphans and Widows Care Centre Project Manager Patrick Mnthanga says that Bursary applicants for last year did not know their fate whether or not they would be supported.

Mr. Mnthanga, who speaking on behalf of Samaritan Strategy Foundation of Zambia and Vulnerable Children Advocacy Project,  also said most parents in the country were finding it difficult to pay secondary school fees adding that it was even worse when it came to university fees.

He said this was the reason people with good results opted to apply for bursaries so that they could be assisted to further their education.

He noted that for Zambia to attain the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 on education priority should be given to educating the nation.

He also said that the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ) should have extended payment of grade 12 examination fees to give an opportunity to rewrite to those that did not do well in the year 2012.

Mr. Mntanga said as much as Civil Society appreciated the extension of payment of grade 12 examination fees from the initial deadline of February 15 to 28th of the same month, this would still disadvantage those that have not gotten their results.
