Chief Chipepo ‘ cries ‘ for food for his subjects

Chief Chipepo of the Tonga people of Siavonga district has called on government to quickly intervene in the hunger situation that has hit his Chiefdom.

 

And Lusaka Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe who visited the area, confirmed the hunger situation in the district.

 

Chief Chipepo says government should through the Food Reserve Agency ( FRA ) quickly supply relief food to the district which he said is badly affected by draught.

 

ZANIS reports that the Traditional ruler said this in an interview in Lusaka, today.

 

He lamented that most of his subjects have run out of maize the situation he described as a disaster.

 

The traditional leader also explained that he had appealed to government through the Lusaka Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe when he visited the district early this month.

 

The affected areas are Ngombe -ilede, Nanyanga, Sikongo and Lusitu , respectively.

.

He said he has since written to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to come to the aid of the district.

 

And Lusaka Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe who visited the area, confirmed the hunger situation in the district.

 

Mr. Sikazwe said in a separate interview that  government was working out modalities to avert the situation as he has submitted a report on the hunger situation to his permanent secretary for action.
