Soccer fans urged support local football league

Lusaka, February 20, ZANIS—Soccer fans have been urged to turn up in big numbers and watch the local football league games which commences next month.

Zambia Soccer Fans Association Patron Peter Makembo called on soccer fans to take interest in watching the local league which he said is a strong build up for the national team’s preparations for the 2014 Brazil world cup.

Makembo said the 2013 MTN soccer season is important in the soccer calendar saying that it will accord the national team a strong motivation in its quest for the first ever world cup appearance.

The 2013 MTN/Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) soccer season kick starts on the 16th of March.

Makembo has further urged soccer fans to continue rallying behind the Chipolopolo boys in their last remaining world cup qualifying matches.

He said soccer fans should quickly forget the recent disgraceful outing of the Chipolopolo Boys from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which was held in South Africa.

And Makembo has called on the business houses in Zambia to sponsor more local teams so that they can fully sustain themselves during this year’s MTN/FAZ soccer season.

Makembo also called on soccer fans to supplement individual and corporate sponsored teams in the country with finances as one way of showing strong support to their respect teams.

Meanwhile, the Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu charity shield is on the weekend at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka with league champions Zanaco taking on Napsa Stars while Power Dynamos will take on Zesco united.
