—– A 33 –year – old, Lydia Mwape of Katondo Township in Kabwe has been brutally murdered.

Mwape is believed to have been murdered by her 34- year -old husband, Vincent Mucheleta.

Mucheleta, who has been physically abusing his wife through his alleged tendency of beating her up was this time unfortunate that his seven year old marriage witnessed its brutal fate by his alleged hands.

Central Province Police Commanding Officer, Standwell Lungu confirmed the incident to ZANIS that the police suspect the usage of a sharp instrument by the perpetrator but declined to give detailed
information on the incident, stating that the matter was still under investigation.

However, Mr Lungu advised that physical fighting and Gender Based Violence (GBV) must not be the resort to solving family problems and described it as apparently having consequences such as deaths, arrest and imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the younger sister to the deceased, Ireen Mwape narrated the ordeal to ZANIS.
“I was with her around 20:00hrs yesterday (previous day) when we parted company after she escorted me to my place, only to be astonishingly learn of the ordeal through my daughter in the early hours of today,” narrated Ms Mwape.

She further explained that her in-law (Mucheleta) exasperatedly, went out to look for Lydia around 04:00 hours after realising that she had not come back home by 03:00hours in the morning but could not find her.

“Obviously, after escorting me, Lydia went out on a drinking spree at one of the local pubs (Y2K Complex) and according to what her children told me, she came around 04:00hours and was confronted by her angry husband who locked the children in the house and just got back minutes
later to inform the children that their mother was dead,” lamented Ms Mwape.

Lydia’s body was discovered in cold blood around 04:00hours by passers-by just few metres away from her matrimonial home on Monday (yesterday).

Lydia’s close relatives strongly believe that it is her husband that took her life after he apparently left the house with a screw-driver to confront his now deceased wife who was found with deep cuts in the left side of her head and this coincided with the police statement, on the matter.

However, the women of Katondo have called on relevant authorities to put stern action on Gender Based Violence (GBV) perpetrators, as apparently the act is not only affecting women but the nation negatively.

Mucheleta 34, is in police custody to help with the investigations leading to the death of his wife who was killed after she reported home late from a drinking spree.
