–The Disaster Management Unit (DMU) under the Office of the Vice President has delivered to Senanga District 330 metric tonnes of relief maize to cushion hunger in the area.

Senanga District Commissioner Mihupulo Yumei disclosed this during a District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) meeting held in his office yesterday.

Mr Yumei said the maize will be distributed to both Senanga and Nalolo Constituencies to vulnerable households.

He said the intervention by the Disaster Management Unit is timely as his office has of late been receiving numerous requests for relief maize from ward councillors in the district.

The District Commissioner said Nalolo Constituency is the more affected because of the low crop yield experienced last year in the area.

The 330 metric tonnes which translates into 6600 X 50 kg bags of maize will be distributed by Keeper Zambia Foundation and the Senanga District Agricultural and Show Society.

Mr Yumei urged the two organizations to ensure that they embark on the distribution exercise by next week.
