United Part for National Development (UPND) Southern Province Information and Publicity Secretary Derrick Livune says he respects the decision of Howard Sikwela to resign as Livingstone Central Constituency Member of Parliament.

Mr Livune who is also Katombola Member of Parliament said Rev Sikwela is a free Zambian who is capable of making his own decisions.

He said that the representing the people of Livingstone should be respected.

Mr Livune however, said though Rev Sikwela’s reasons for his resignation from UPND and that of ceasing to represent Livingstone Central constituency as Member of parliament should be respected, such a decision is costly as it involves calling for another by-election resulting in a lot of costs as more money will be spent at the expense of development and wasting tax payers money.

Mr Livune made this observation in a telephone interview with ZANIS on Sunday.

Meanwhile, UPND in Southern province has bemoaned the continued harassment of opposition leaders in the country.

UPND Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Derrick Livune said his party is not happy with the prevailing situation of opposition leaders harassment, adding that his party is awaiting the matter of their party President Hakainde Hichilema which is currently in the courts of law hoping for justice to prevail.
