North western province permanent secretary Augustine Seyuba says he is not impressed with the work done on the township road by a local contractor in Kabompo district.

Mr. Seyuba who conducted a spot check on the Kabompo/ Chikankwelo road said the workmanship on the road is poor as evidenced by the gullies that the road has already developed.

The PS also wondered why the contractor, Hillers Contractors a local company has not worked on the drainage system when funds were released to him to do the work.

District council secretary Francis Nkoma said in an interview that the contractor was paid K70, 000 rebased out of the total cost of the K107, 000 rebased, the money suspected to have been from the 2011 constituency development fund allocation.

Mr. Nkoma who however agreed with the PS that the works on the road are poor attributed the shoddy work to the quality of the soils in the district.

And Mr. Seyuba who expressed dissatisfaction on the quality works said the money was just worsted and added his office need to establish how the council contracted the contractor and the source of funding.

Meanwhile Mr. Seyuba has directed office of the district commissioner Dennis Kanyakula to help maintain the historical detention house of the first republican president Dr Kenneth Kaunda which is located near at Chiwenza basic school in Kabompo district.

Mr. Seyuba who visited the house which is now a national monument said it is a symbol of Dr Kaunda’s dedication to Zambia’s freedom and independence whose surrounding should be keep clean.
