Ms Katongo says the incident happened in the early hours of 19th June at about 01:40 hours at a funeral house in Kasanda police camp.

She says brief facts are that the victim who was in the company of other friends at the funeral house went to the suspect’s motor vehicle where he was found sleeping and tried to wake him up by knocking on the door of the motor vehicle, prompting the suspect to fire two shots at the victim through the window who sustained bullet wounds.

Ms Katongo says the victim was rushed to Kabwe General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

She says the suspect has since been arrested and the pistol recovered while body of the deceased is in Kabwe General Hospital Mortuary.

Meanwhile Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo says Police are still investigating the shooting of a student at Lusaka Apex Medical University Kasama road campus.

Mr. Kampyongo says preliminary investigations revealed that the undeveloped land opposite the university campus is used as a firing range by the Zambia Army.

He has told parliament in ministerial statement on the rising number of criminal gangs and activities as well as a comment on the firing range in the Chalala area of Lusaka and the alleged shooting of a student.

Mr Kampyongo said looking at the location where the student is said to have been standing at the time of the alleged shooting, it is possible that he could have been shot by a stray bullet from the range.

And Mr Kampyongo says 66 people have been arrested by Police in Kitwe for various gang related offences, ranging from aggravated robberies to abductions, unlawful wounding, causing grievous bodily harm and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
