The open pit in Chingola District has caused extensive damage to 26 Residential structures in Butungwa Ward over the weekend.
Confirming the development to Phoenix News, area Councilor Soko Mumba has explained that flying stones crushed onto roofs of six houses resulting in destruction of the roofing sheets and some household properties on which the stones landed.

Mr. Mumba has further explained that due to the vibrations, 20 houses also had their windows shuttered. He has since accused the mine investor of abusing the residents in its operations by abrogating the mine regulations.
But when contacted for a comment, KCM Cooperate Affairs Manager Eugine Chungu said only 7 houses had their roofs damaged contrary to 26 houses as revealed by the area Councilor.
He says the company is still assessing the extent of the damage and once completed repair works will be undertaken on the damaged houses.
