The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission CCPC is investigating the awarding of a tender for the manufacturing of number plates by the Road Transport and Safety Agency RTSA to LAMISE.

In October last year, several companies protested after RTSA awarded the tender to manufacture number plates to Lamise, a Lebanese entity that manufactures plastics.

CCPC Executive Director Chilufya Sampa says the commission is in receipt of three complaints against RTSA from local companies regarding the awarding of number plate manufacturing tender to LAMISE as being anti-competitive.

Mr. Sampa says preliminary investigations suggest that RTSA awarded the tender to LAMISE because majority number plates were defective as they could not be captured on cameras while others fade off easily or get damaged.

Mr. Sampa says RTSA is justifying their decision arguing that local manufacturers of number plates are not doing a good job and will therefore, investigate to justify the claims.
