Minister of Higher Education Nkandu Luo says the Kwame Nkrumah University in Kabwe will open as soon as government concludes the process of employing qualified lecturers.
Professor Luo says all the lecturers who were teaching at the institution have been asked to re-apply.
She says apart from employing new people, those who are qualified will be retained while those who are not will be surrendered to the Ministry of General Education.
Professor Luo urged students to remain calm because government wants the institution to have professors, doctors and those with masters, as lecturers.
She also said government wants to use this time when the institution is closed to complete some hostels that are under construction to avert the accommodation crisis.
Professor Luo has told ZNBC news in an interview that government is determined to ensure all the public universities are equipped with qualified lecturers and modern learning equipment.
