Mealie meal prices in Lusaka have been increased by k4.

A check at Olympia market, Kanele market and Garden Park in Garden Township, Mtendere market and some shops in Chipata compound revealed that prices of the commodity have been hiked and now selling at between K66 and K72.

And some shop owners have told phoenix news that prices for all mealie meal brands will be effected next week when the current stock finishes while others said they have increased the price now because millers have also increased prices as a result of the recently increased fuel prices by the energy regulation board.

And Mr. Andrew Chintala who is president of the Millers Association of Zambia has indicated that contrary to assertions that the hike is as a result of increased fuel prices, the current hike has been necessitated by the increase in maize prices.

Mr. Chintala stressed that the impact of the fuel hike has not yet been felt by the millers.
