I don’t think there is much coming from Rainbow Party or Edith Nawakwi’s FDD but if they can get more than 10 per cent of the votes, they will push us in the second round of the election which could be very violent with PF in power, says UPND supporter and former vice-president Dr Guy Scott.

In an interview, Dr Scott, who is on a campaign tour in Eastern Province, said there was a lot of enthusiasm and wide hunger by many Zambians to remove the PF in office.

“”There is wide hunger for change throughout the country as far as everyone, as far as I can see. Everybody wants change, they don’t want to continue the way we are going at the moment.

Whereas there are differences in the local mobilisation, because the party is growing very big, there are all sorts of growing pains among the people between the provinces. So there are problems but as far as wishes of people are concerned, it is time for change,” Dr Scott said.

“”People are very much against PF. MMD has blown itself apart so it is no longer a factor. I don’t think there is much coming from Rainbow or Edith Nawakwi. There might be extra votes for them but right now, it is looking strong for UPND.

Having an outright win in the first round is possible but a lot of it depends on the smaller parties, if they can get more than 10 per cent of the votes, they will push us in the second round, which could be very violent with PF in power,” Dr Scott said

He said the UPND was maximising its support base to get an outright win.

“For the ‘sonta’ business, well if you at leopards Hill road for example, it stopped in the middle of nowhere. It is not going across the valley and you say ‘sonta’ (point) if you want? Until those project are finished, there is nothing to ‘sonta’ about. I don’t think people are that foolish.

There will be some votes based on ‘sonta’ principle but it’s not enough to overcome people’s hunger to vote PF out,” said Dr Scott
