ZAMBIA’s prolific forward Collins Mbesuma is in hot pursuit for the Absa Premier league Golden Boot award after scoring 14 goals for his Mpumalanga Black Aces side with only two games before the close of the season.

And the burly striker was in sensational form on Tuesday night despite not registering his name on the score sheet when Aces held Bidvest Wits to a 2-2 draw which left the “Clever Boys” trailing league leaders Mamelody Sundowns by five points.
Mbesuma is three points ahead of Supersport United’s Jeremy Brockie, Prince Nxumalo of Ajax Cape Town and Thobani Mncwango of Polokwane Stars who are on 11 goals each though Nxumalo had the chance last night to close the gap while the other two contenders will have to wait until Sunday when their teams go head-to-head.
Mbesuma has been in stunning form this season for both club and country and has been an integral part in Zambia’s qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations by providing a lethal attack with former ZESCO United hit man Winstone Kalengo.

The player’s hunger for goals has been increasing since rediscovering his form following his dwindling fortunes in the past two seasons which left some soccer pundits concluding that his glory days were over.
Mbesuma would have increased his goal tally in the game against Bidvest Wits as early as the second minute of the first half after heading wide from close range following a sweet delivery into the area by Aubrey Ngoma during an action-packed thriller at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

“AmaZayoni” took the lead in the eighth minute after Bryce Moon received a dummy on the right flank by Lindokuhle Mbatha in the box which allowed the youngster to easily tap the ball home.
Aces then hit the cross bar in the 19th minute with Moeneeb Josephs beaten by Moon, but the former Bafana Bafana right back couldn’t keep his header low as the ball rattled the woodwork.

The Clever Boys managed to equalise in the 33rd minute when Daine Klate picked out Vilakazi on the left as he made his run into the box – the Bafana midfielder cleverly beat Jackson Mabokgwane on his far post to make it 1-1 at the break.
Aces broke through on the right in the 69th minute and Mbatha crossed the ball to find substitute Judas Moseamedi, but Nazeer Allie put his face on the line to deny him.
Three minutes from time Pelembe managed to set up Vilakazi who scored a brace after beating Mabokgwane from a close range.
Just two minutes later Ngalo cancelled out Vilakazi’s goal as he finished a cross on the far post following a set-piece by another hardworking player Ngoma.

  1. Prince nxumalo of Ajax cape Town (13 goals) scored a brace in his last game and is now just 1 goal behind collins (14 goals). Kind David has to make sure he scores in the last 2 games remaining. Because prince is also on fire. All the best to collins. He will make history if he goes on and grabs it
