Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has described as irresponsible UPND presidential advisor Douglas Syakalima’s endorsement of the violence in Bweengwa orchestrated by suspected UPND cadres.
Mr. Kambwili in a statement says this confirms the UPND’s violent agenda in its selfish political ambitions.
He says contrary to Mr. Syakalima’s assertions, Government has consistently condemned violence regardless of who is behind it.
Mr. Kambwili states that it must be made known that the UPND does not own Southern province and that Zambia is a unitary state and that all those who believe that the opposition party owns the province are trading on dangerous ground for they risk committing a felony.
He says Zambians are entitled to a free and peaceful atmosphere to go about their business in any party of the country as guaranteed in the Republican Constitution and no one has the right to disrupt them.
Mr. Kambwili has urged the people of Zambia to reject political parties that believe in violence.
He says the incident that occurred in Bweengwa in Monze at the weekend where a convoy of Government vehicles and officers including a ZANIS media crew were attacked and held captive, is shameful and unacceptable, which should be condemned with the contempt it deserves.
