Police release Lusaka magistrate on bond after spending a night in cells for GBV

SENIOR Principal magistrate Lameck Mwale who was arrested and detained on Saturday for allegedly assaulting and threatening to shoot his wife was yesterday released from police custody on bond.

In an interview, Lusaka Province police commissioner Charity Katanga said Mwale was released on bond after spending a night in cells.

“He was arrested yesterday (Saturday) and he has been released on police bond. He has just been released actually,” said Katanga.

Mwale, 36, based at the Magistrate Complex, is alleged to have beaten his wife, Hara Chikupe, 32, before threatening to shoot her after a marital dispute.

Mwale was picked up on Saturday and was detained at Lusaka’s Emmasdale Police Station.

He has been slapped with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and threatening violence contrary to section 248 and 90 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mwale will appear in court soon.
