Police in Kasama have detained two United Party for National Development -UPND cadres for allegedly perpetuating political violence in the area.

Police sources told ZANIS that the duo will remain in custody while investigations into the political violence which has rocked Kasama town continue.

The police said one of the UPND cadres was picked up today in connection with the beating up of a PF member at Chikumanino market.

The victim has since been issued with a police report to enable him access treatment at Kasama General Hospital.

And PF member Kelvin Sampa has commended the police for bringing to book the perpetrators of violence in Kasama District.

Mr. Sampa, who is also PF Kasama Central aspiring candidate, said the people of Kasama are not happy with violence being perpetrated by the opposition UPND.

He however urged PF members to be peaceful and refrain from retaliating amidst provocation from opposition party cadres.

Mr. Sampa said the PF does not believe in political violence hence the need for the party members to be peaceful in their conduct.

Meanwhile, a UPND member Jack Simutenda has called for political tolerance between PF and UPND cadres in Kasama District in order to prevent the clashes among the rival camps.

On Friday, some suspected UPND cadres attacked PF members at Kasama’s Chambeshi market leaving one seriously injured.
