POLICE in Mufulira have arrested three people for allegedly obtaining over K700,000 by false pretences from 400 people on a pretext that they would help them secure employment as registration officers in the mobile issuance of national registration cards (NRCs).

Copperbelt Province commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said in an interview yesterday that the 400 people were allegedly swindled in September.
Ms Kasosa identified the suspects as Bertha Kabandama, 55, Martin Musenge, 37, and White Simwiinga, 57.
“Two of the suspects are retired government employees, while Musenge still works as a driver at one of the government departments in Mufulira.
“The trio allegedly got K760,000 cash, which has not been recovered. They have been charged with obtaining money by false pretences and they will appear in court soon,” Ms Kasosa said.
