Chairperson on the Expanded Parliamentary Committee on Estimates Highvie Hamududu says it is unthinkable with the current state of governance that government can run a mine.
Mr. Hamududu has observed that there is enough evidence to show that the current levels of adherence to governance in Zambia are presently quite low.
He notes that this is evidenced by how parastatals in the country are currently running.

In an interview with Qfm News Mr. Hamududu who is also Bweengwa Member of Parliament, has referred to the revelations in the Auditor General’s annual reports as evidence of how parastatals are being mismanaged in the Country.
Mr. Hamududu has cited ZAMPOST and ZAMTEL as some of the parastatals that are being mismanaged and struggling despite them being simple businesses to run.
He states that such mismanagement is what makes him think that it is unreasonable for government to think that it can run a complicated undertaking such as a mine.
Mr. Hamududu has advised that government should therefore be very careful with the idea of wanting to repossess any of the privatized mines in the Country.
He says President Edgar Lungu’s recent suggestion that if owners of Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) have failed to run the mine they should hand it over to the government, is in fact a bad statement.
Mr. Hamududu has encouraged government to instead find solutions to what is happening in the mining industry as opposed to issuing irresponsible statements.
He is convinced that it is possible to find a solution especially that the problems being faced in mining industry are very simple to solve.
