Forum for Democracy and Democracy (FDD) Leader Edith Nawakwi has charged that Zambians will starve to death next year because of the poor agricultural policies implemented by the PF Government.

And the FDD Leader has charged that the PF government has put a tombstone on the farmers in the country because of the changes in the implementation of the Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP) by reducing the number of beneficiaries.
Speaking during the launch of the Startup grants program for small scale farmers, an initiative of her party in Lusaka today, Ms Nawakwi says for the first time in the history of the nation, Zambia will be on the United Nations (UN) list of nations in need of relief food.
Ms Nawakwi explains that the K500, 000 program she has launched will benefit over 4, 000 farmers in various parts of the country to help them sustain their farming efforts.
She says small scale farmers in the country contribute about 80 percent of the food to the national food basket and hence the need to empower them.

She has also observed that the failure by successive government to actualize diversification is due to poor policies.
Ms.Nawakwi states that her party is ready to implement the diversification program if given a chance to govern.
The FDD Leader adds that she has information that three quarters of the farmers who supply their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) are PF members and has since urged the agency to serve the nation and not the PF.
And Ms Nawakwi says the country’s economy is in a mess because the PF government paid a deaf ear to the advice from stakeholders.
