The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia -PROTUZ- has unearthed a scam in which 495 of its members have been illegally joined to another union on the October pay roll.

PROTUZ Director of Mobilisation Misween Phiri says the members have been moved from PROTUZ to another Union without their consent.Mr. Phiri says the action is illegal and that PROTUZ is taking legal redress on the matter.

He was speaking to ZNBC News in a walk in interview.

Meanwhile the Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia -BETUZ- has appealed for calm among all its members countrywide in view of delayed October Salaries.

BETUZ General Secretary Jeffrey Simuntala says he has been assured by Government that the October salaries will be paid by the end of business today.Mr. Simuntala says there is no need to panic.

And Mr. Simuntala says this year’s independence should be celebrated in a reconciliatory mood in view of the recently held national day of prayer, fasting and reconciliation.

He said Independence is a time to appreciate the past and look forward with renewed energy to achieve greater things.

He added that BETUZ and its Teacher members pledge to continue developing the nation by imparting knowledge in both young and old Zambians.
