Three people have died in two separate road traffic accidents in Mpika District in Muchinga Province.

 

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the accidents in an interview with ZANIS in Mpika yesterday.

 

Mr. Daka said the first accident that occurred at the weekend was involving a Toyota Ipsum registration number 5996 and was carrying eight people overturned several times as the driver lost control of the vehicle leaving two males dead.

 

The remaining six passengers were seriously injured and are currently admitted to Kasama General Hospital.

 

Mr. Daka said the accident happened at Mokonte area in Mpika as the eight were travelling from Mpika to Kasama.

 

The deceased persons have been identified as Daniel Mubanga 52 of Kafue and Franco Mwetwa, 40 of Chinsali.

 

In the other accident, a 35 year old teacher  at Chilonga Secondary School  in Mpika district died in  Chilonga Hospital yesterday after the vehicle registration number  ACT 9138,  a Toyota sprinter hit into a Scania truck headon.

 

The truck registration number T 425 AAN belonging to Panone Company limited of Tanzania hit into the Ipsum as the driver of the Toyota Ipsum  lost control of his vehicle as he was traveling from south of Chilonga heading to Mpika town near Mundemwa Primary School.

 

Mr. Daka identified the deceased as Martin Kabwe and that the accident happened around 16:00 hours at the weekend.

 

The Scania truck was loaded with diesel and was coming from Tanzania heading to Ndola on the Copper belt.

 

Mr.  Daka has since advised motorists in the province to be considerate of other road users whenever they are driving, saying by doing so, some road accidents can be avoided.
