14 drivers convicted for causing death by dangerous driving

The Chipata High Court has convicted fourteen motorists for the offences of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
According to the warrants of Execution made available to the Road Transport and Safety Agency, the fourteen drivers were convicted of one count each of the offence of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving contrary to section 161 of the Road Traffic Act Number 11 of 2002.
During a criminal secession held in Chipata recently, JUSTICE MCHENGA and JUSTICE CHAWATAMA in separate rulings, penalized the fourteen drivers to a payment of a fine each, in default nine months simple imprisonment.
The court further ordered for the suspension of Drivers Licences for the fourteen drivers.

The High Court has since ordered for suspension of the Drivers Licence for POSITANI BANDA for a period of 36 months whilst JAY BANDA, MASAUSO MBEWE, LEWIS MWEWA, JAVARY MWANZA, JOSHUA LUNGU and KENANI BANDA have had their whose licences suspended for a period of 24 moths.
The rest are KAOMA LUKONDE, MAPENZI MALUKUTILA, JONATHAN ZIMUTO, MVELANI BANDA, GIBSON BANDA, and JOHN BANDA whose licences have been suspended for a period of 12 months whereas DANIEL BANDA’s Driving Licence has been suspended for 6 months.
To this effect, the RTSA has effected the orders for the suspension of the 14 Drivers Licences and will remain vigilantly to enforce the law in a bid to reduce bad road user behavior on public roads.
