3 boys die in anthill while digging for worms

THREE grade three pupils of Mululwe Primary School in Mpulungu, have died while two others sustained injuries after an anthill caved in and buried them alive while digging for worms to use as bait for catching fish.
Two of the dead boys aged 12 and 13 were from the same family.
Mpulungu district commissioner Dennis Sikazwe and Northern Province division criminal investigations officer Clipper Mweetwa said in separate interviews yesterday that the incident happened last Friday around 09:00 hours.

 

Mr Mweetwa said the incident happened while the children were digging for worms to use as bait for catching fish on Mululwe River.
Mr Mweetwa has identified the dead children as Silati Sichivula, 12, Amon Sichivula, 13, and Lazarus Simbao, 14, while the injured are Castrol Chisha, 11, and Smart Sikazwe, 12.
“Three of them died instantly after they were buried alive while two of them were seriously injured and are currently admitted to Mbala General Hospital,” Mr Mweetwa said.
