THE Mongu Magistrate’s Court has revoked police bond granted to a 24-year-old Chinese man charged with assaulting his Zambian co-worker.
Magistrate Julius Malata cancelled Peng Xu’s police bond after discovering that the suspect did not surrender his passport and work permit.
This was after Peng, a worker at Avic International Project Engineering Company, appeared before Mr Malata for plea on Monday.
Peng is alleged to have assaulted Inambao Wakumelo.

Mr Malata, however, could not take Peng’s plea due to language barrier.
“I will not allow you to take plea as we do not have Chinese interpreters. However, I have noted that you did not surrender your work permit and passport at the time you were given police bond.
“I hereby revoke your bond and you will go to prison until I hear your matter again on Wednesday [today], “ he said.
Particulars of the offence are that Peng, on September 22 this year, assaulted his co-worker, Inambao, near Lealui in Mongu District of Western Province.
