Government has assured teachers across the county that it is working to harmonise the salary structures in the ministry of education.

Education minister Michael Kaingu says government is aware of issues surrounding teachers who have upgraded their qualifications at various levels.

ZNBC’s Joseph Nyirenda reports that Dr. Kaingu says government is also pursuing issues of promotions for staff in the Ministry of Education.

The Education minister was speaking when he addressed teachers at Chadiza and Lundazi boarding secondary schools.

And Eastern Province Provincial Education Officer Allan Lingambe has assured teachers in the province that the issue of pension anomalies for teachers employed from the year 2000 will be resolved soon.

Meanwhile,Mr. Kaingu has called for increased and sustained efforts to fight off early marriages in rural areas.

Dr Kaingu says Zambians must not take early marriages as a joke because it is a serious problem that requires strategic interventions.

He says early marriages are eroding the country’ opportunity to educate the girl child and increase women’s participation in national development.
