SUSPECTED members of a gang called jerabos yesterday engaged police in skirmishes at the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court Complex after their two colleagues charged with aggravated robbery were committed to the High Court for trial.
A team of police officers led by Kitwe Central Police Station officer-in-charge George Zulu had a tough time to control the jerabos while their colleagues exited the courtroom after they were committed to the High Court for trial.
Magistrate Chinana Chiwaula committed Simeon Kalobo, 29, and his co-accused Geoffrey Venda, 26, to the High Court for trial.
It is alleged that Kalobo and Venda on August 10 this year in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown and whilst armed with an offensive weapon, stole K7,000 cash from Terry Kayamba.
Magistrate Chiwaula said he had received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to commit Kalobo and Venda to the High Court for trial.
