A 32-YEAR-OLD man of Zambia Railways township in Chililabombwe is battling for his life at Nchanga North General Hospital in Chingola after sustaining burns while he and his friends allegedly attempted to steal electric cables.

Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said in an interview yesterday that James Mphande of house number 1800/2, Zambia Railway township sustained burns between the late hours of Sunday and early hours of yesterday.

“He got burnt as he and his colleagues were allegedly stealing electric cables from Zambia Railways,” she said.
She said relatives took Mr Mphande to Kakoso Health Centre for treatment but he was referred to Nchanga North General Hospital because his condition is critical.
Ms Kasosa said police are investigating the matter and are yet to make arrests.
