President Edgar Lungu is concerned that opposition political parties are plotting violence ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The President says he has received reports that the opposition are bent on creating lawlessness in the country, starting with the Bangweulu by-election and some wards in Kasama and Isoka in the run up to next year’s polls

President Lungu has regretted that FDD leader Edith Nawakwi encouraged voters in Bangweulu to seize government property which she claimed was carrying rigged ballots.

The Head of State says Ms Nawakwi’s statement led to polling stations opening late.

The President said this through his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.

President Lungu adds that he is aware that former Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba has been sponsoring violence, which resulted in seven PF supporters being attacked.

The President has also disclosed that there is a scheme to paint the ruling PF as a violent party, where criminals are being dressed in PF regalia at Lusaka’s Soweto market to attack innocent marketeers.

He has warned that he will not spare anyone, regardless of their position, in his efforts to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu says he is doing his best to make the PF into a more formidable party, devoid of violence.

President Lungu is concerned that the culture of violence has continued to take centre stage whenever there are elections.

The president has also reiterated his call on politicians to accept results when they lose.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has disclosed that plans to resuscitate the country’s national airline have advanced.

He says it is unacceptable to connect to Europe when one is travelling to West Africa, for instance, and stressed the need for regional integration.

President Lungu said this when former Tanzanian president Benjamin Mkapa paid a courtesy call on him at State House this morning.

Mr. Mkapa is in the country at the invitation of First Republican president Kenneth Kaunda, from whom he has taken over as Cavendish University Chancellor.

The former Tanzanian president hailed the warm neighborly relations with Zambia.

Mr. Mkapa also praised the people of Zambia for conducting themselves peacefully during the January 2015 presidential election, saying Tanzania hopes to take the same path when it goes to the polls in October this year.
