DEPUTY Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya says there is no outbreak of meningitis in Mufumbwe.
The deputy minister said in an interview that tests conducted on a pupil who was admitted to hospital for suspected meningitis found that he had a type of meningitis which is non-communicable.

“Yes, there was one pupil who presented with signs and symptoms of meningitis and the investigations were carried out and the cause of the meningitis was not the epidemic type,” Dr Chilufya said.
He said the boy had a different type of bacterial meningitis from the epidemic one. Dr Chilufya also said the meningitis outbreak in Kabompo has been contained.

“Our public health surveillance systems are sensitising people on how to keep healthy and prevent communicable disease,” he said.
