Govt to recruit 1,000 ZNS officers

President Edgar Lungu says government will soon recruit 1,000 officers to the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to scale up agricultural productivity in the country.

Mr Lungu said government wants to enhance the capacity of ZNS in order to improve and spur agricultural productivity in the country.

 

The Head of State said this when he toured stands at the on-going 89th Agricultural and Commercial show at the show grounds in Lusaka being held under the theme “Innovation beyond the golden jubilee through opportunity, partnership and sustainability”.

 

Mr Lungu, who was accompanied by Ministers of Agriculture and Commerce, government and show society officials toured several stands to view exhibits.

President Lungu was impressed with the ZNS vegetable demonstration plot where they are piloting enhanced local seed varieties.

 

Mr Lungu also toured Keegy Company that is promoting agricultural mechanization equipment as well as stands for state lodge farm , Lumwana Mine , and was impressed by a goat breeding project .

Meanwhile First Lady Esther Lungu says she is impressed with the involvement of women in small scale mining activities.

 

Mrs Lungu, who was accompanied by Mrs Gertrude Mutharika, wife of Malawian President Peter Mutharika during her tour of the stands at the agricultural and commercial show, said she is encouraged by women’s resolve to venture into economic areas largely dominated by men.
