The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has commended government through the Ministry of Youth and Sport for its continued support to the development of football in the country.
FAZ Communications Officer Nkweto Tembwe says it is against this background that the country has been accorded the right to host the 2017 Confederations of African Football (CAF) Under-20 championships.
In a statement issued to ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today, Tembwe said the tournament is an important event which should re-emphasise Zambia’s position as a great footballing nation in the continent.
And Tembwe has said Zambia should use the home advantage and emerge as the eventual junior Africa champions during this tournament.
Tembwe said this would set the tone for qualification to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup and the Cameroon 2019 Africa Cup of nations’ championships respectively.
Meanwhile, Tembwe said the junior team build-up programme ahead of the 2017 junior Africa championship has since commenced.
