Boy, 14, convicted for killing girl, 2 in car crash

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy of Kawama East in Mufulira has been convicted for causing the death of a two-year-old girl of the same area.
This was after he lost control of the motor vehicle he was driving and hit into children who were playing.

 

Ndola High Court judge Mary Mulanda convicted the juvenile after he pleaded guilty to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
The court heard that on November 13, 2014, in Mufulira, the juvenile, whilst driving a Toyota Corolla registration number AAK 2921, within his parent’s yard, hit into the children who were playing within the same yard causing the death of Janet Mulundu.

 

“On your own admission of the charge, I find you guilty as charged. Let the matter come up on Tuesday next week for a Social Welfare report and sentencing,” Ms Justice Mulanda said.
The court heard that the juvenile offender first drove the vehicle out of his parent’s yard before driving it back into the yard, where he hit into the children who were playing and later hit into the wall of the house.
Janet sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.

 

The court further heard that the accident was caused as a result of the juvenile’s lack of driving experience and that he is not in possession of a driver’s license on account on a his underage.
