Government says it takes strong exception to sentiments by UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema that President Edgar Lungu and the PF want to assassinate him.
Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili says there is no reason why President Lungu and the PF can sink so low as to take another person’s life for political expediency.
Mr Kambwili says the PF is not a group of murderers and urged Mr Hichilema to be careful with statements he issues to the public.
The minister has assured Zambians that no one including government has any plans to murder the UPND leader or any opposition leader in the country.
He was reacting to Mr Hichilema’s allegation made at a media briefing in Lusaka.
The UPND leader claimed that the events at Moba Hotel in Kitwe on Wednesday last week indicate that there is a ploy to kill him and UNPD spokesperson Charles Kakoma.
But Mr Kambwili says it is wrong for Mr Hichilema to assume that President Lungu wants to assassinate him just because of a mere fracas he had with some youths in Kitwe who have since been arrested and will appear in court on Monday.
