UPND and Patriotic Front-PF cadres clashed in Kitwe’s Chachacha Township near the UPND secretariat where its leader Hakainde Hichilema was meeting some provincial party officials.

Mr. Hichilema was in Kitwe to address a UPND provincial conference at the Kitwe Show Grounds.

A ZNBC News Crew that went to the scene found several police officers in riot gear combing the area.

Copperbelt Police Chief Joyce Kasosa also confirmed the development but said that no arrests were made.

Ms. Kasosa says the UPND applied for a permit for a meeting in the show grounds but that its leader Hakainde Hichilema decided to visit other areas, where they clashed with suspected PF cadres.

And UPND Deputy Information and Publicity Secretary Lawrence Mwanza says cadres from the opposition where provoked by the PF youths who went to disrupt their function at the secretariat by throwing stones and other objects.

But PF Copperbelt Youth Chairman Nathan Chanda says no party youth was involved in the reported fracas.

Mr. Chanda says the youths that clashed with the UPND cadres could have been members of the public who were not happy with the conduct of the UPND.
