Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has described the late Youngson Kalobo, the leader of small scale miners commonly known as Jerabos, as a youthful leader who United Zambians to fight for their mineral rights.

 

Mr. Kambwili, who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister, says many Kitwe residents where earning a living from the Copper slug dump site commonly known as Black Mountain due to the spirited fight Mr. Kalobo put up to allow Zambians access it.

 

The Minister said this when he addressed mourners at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday during a church service for the late businessman.

 

And the late Mr. Kalobo’s elder brother Pavyuma described his young brother as a community worker who gave a lot to poor people.

Traffic came to a standstill in Kitwe as the funeral procession passed through the town center to Nkana Stadium in Wusakile area.

 

Dozens of Jerabos clad in black suits while riding in Hummer vehicles and convertible BMWs led the procession as several minibus drivers and private vehicles put their headlamps on full beam.

 

Prominent among those who attended the church service were Mines Deputy Minister Richard Musukwa, Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Stady Mwale and Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe.

 

Hundreds of Kitwe residents, Councillors, leaders from the Patriotic Front and members of various churches also attended the church service.
