A-32-YEAR-OLD woman of Mafinga has killed her new-born baby in an effort to conceal her alleged infidelity from her estranged husband.
Muchinga Province police commissioner Auxensio Daka said in an interview yesterday that Donaria Kanga of Wenela village in Chief Mifyombe’s area, allegedly threw the infant in a toilet, a few hours after giving birth. The infant was retrieved from the toilet but it died shortly afterwards.
“The baby died on the way to Isoka District Hospital where it was rushed for medical attention after its health deteriorated,” Mr Daka said.
The woman, who is on separation with her husband, travelled from Kabwe to visit her parents in Muyombe, and got pregnant from another man.
Mr Daka said Kanga has been arrested and charged with infanticide.
