A GOOD Samaritan has allegedly raped a woman of Kitwe’s Nkana West after rescuing her from the husband who was battering her.
And a 43-year-old man of Profund Flats in Ndola’s Itawa township has drowned after his vehicle careered off Dag Hammarskjöld Drive and plunged into Kafubu River.

A group of strangers offered to help the woman after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband but one of the rescuers allegedly raped her on their way to Kitwe Central Police Station.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said yesterday that the incident happened around 21:00 hours on Saturday while the “Good Samaritans” were escorting the woman to the police station.

Ms Kasosa said the suspect and his friends found the woman being battered by her husband, rescued her and offered to escort her to the police station to report the matter.
But en route to the police station, one of them allegedly turned on her.

“A woman of Nkana West was raped by one of the people who rescued her after being assaulted by her husband. The group of people offered to escort her to the police station to report the matter but one of them raped her on their way to the police station,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said the woman bled profusely and the suspect also stole her Samsung galaxy phone.
Police are yet to make arrests but have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

She cautioned the citizens, especially women, who may find themselves in similar situations, not to seek assistance from strangers but to instead use police emergency lines to avoid putting their lives at risk.
And MUBANGA NONDO reports that Musas Matthieu of house number 11, Profund Flats, drowned on Saturday around 03:00 hours after his vehicle plunged into Kafubu River.

She said police suspect that Mr Matthieu, who was driving a Toyota Corolla registration number ACX 469, was over speeding and lost control of the vehicle before it plunged into Kafubu River.
She said Mr Matthieu was alone in the vehicle when the accident happened.

“The vehicle plunged into Kafubu River due to suspected overspeeding. The driver is suspected to have drowned, because he had no physical injuries on his body. His body has since been retrieved,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said the body is in Ndola Central Hospital mortuary.
And a man of Mandona village on Chilubi Island has allegedly been murdered and his assailants attempted to make it look like suicide.
Northern Province deputy commissioner of police Alfred Nawa said in an interview that the incident happened on Saturday between 01:00 hours and 07:00 hours in Chief Chiwanangala’s area.

Mr Nawa has identified the deceased as George Mwaba.
He said police have arrested Mr Mwaba’s brother-in-law to help with investigations into the murder.
Mr Nawa, however, withheld the name of the suspect for fear of jeopardising investigations.
He said the body had suspected human bite marks, burns in some parts and swollen genitals.

He said Mr Mwaba’s brother, Lazarous, 40, reported the matter to police.
“We strongly suspect it is a case of murder because the deceased had injuries on his body. What his assailants did was that they decided to hang the body to a tree near the late Mr Mwaba’s brother’s house so that people would believe that the deceased had killed himself,” Mr Nawa said.
