Musician Chama Fumba popularly known as Pilato has been arrested and charged with an offence of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The musician has since been detained at Lusaka Central Police station.

Pilato was arrested, after he had earlier been interviewed by police, over his song, in which he is alleged to have defamed President Edgar Lungu.

The Musician’s lawyer, Marshal Muchende has told journalists at central police that Pilato is alleged to have produced a song, that has incensed some members of the public.

Mr Muchende has further explained that police have since refused to release Pilato on bond, on reasons that they are still processing paper work.

He has also stated that he has however asked the police to take the matter to court, so that a bail application can be made.

Earlier, Pilato had reported himself to Lusaka Central Police, after being summoned by police, as part of investigations.

Pilato arrived at the central police station at about 11.09 hours, in the company of lawyers, Mr Muchende and Mulilo Kabesha.

The summoning of Pilato followed a complaint, filed by Maxim Kakumba and Mweenya Matafwali, both Lusaka residents, who feel the musician’s song is putting the President’s name into ridicule.

Last Monday, June 1, 2015, Lusaka Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga said investigations had been opened against Pilato, in connection with his song, which allegedly defames President Lungu.
