The ruling Patriotic Front and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) have been challenged to condemn the violence that happened in Mulobezi yesterday where it is alleged that suspected UPND cadres attacked Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Chama’s convoy.
Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) Executive Director Horrance Chilando says what transpired in Mulobezi is unacceptable and must be condemned with the contempt it deserves by all well meaning Zambians including political leaders.

Mr. Chilando notes that Zambians thought political cadres have moved away from the habit of violence during campaigns looking at the way they conducted themselves in past by elections.
Mr. Chilando says political parties involved should take responsibility and speak against it citing that political parties should realize that attacking each other is not what will make them win the by elections but the message that they give to the people and how they conduct themselves.

He has further appealed to the police to do their investigations professionally and bring to book all those who will be found wanting so that they are dealt with and so that other cadres will learn from them and desist from engaging themselves in violent activities.
And UPND Deputy Spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo has accused the ruling PF of harassing and intimidating the UPND members campaigning in Mulobezi.
He says police should investigate the matter and those found wanting regardless of which political party they are coming from should be brought to book stating that as a party, they do not support violence whether perpetrated by their cadres or cadres from other parties.
