Nine people died on the spot in two different road accidents in central Zambia’s Kapiri Mposhi district, the police said on Tuesday.
Four people died on the spot after being run over by a truck while five others died when a vehicle they were traveling in collided with another vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday, according to Zambia Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda.
She said the first accident occurred when the driver of the truck failed to keep to his side of the road and hit the four people who were relieving themselves by the road side.
The other accident occurred after two vehicles collided around midnight, she added.
“All the nine bodies are lying in Kapiri Mposhi General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while the driver from the first accident has been charged with four counts of causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court soon,” she said.
